Dining for the American Black Film Festival

One of Miami’s great cultural events will be getting underway shortly: the American Black Film Festival, running June 13th through 17th. And for conveniently close fine Italian dining, look no further than Mercato Della Pescheria Miami Beach!

The 2018 American Black Film Festival

This year marks the 22nd iteration of the American Black Film festival, established back in 1997 in Acapulco and moved to South Beach in 2002; it’s been a Miami event since then except for a three-year stint in Los Angeles.

Drawing some 10,000 attendees each year, this independent film festival celebrates the big- and small-screen work of black directors, producers, writers, actors, actresses, and other creators, both well-established talents and ambitious up-and-comers. It’s a chance to watch some truly fantastic feature films, documentaries, shorts, music videos, and other productions, plus hear some fascinating insights from the artists behind them and from industry movers and shakers.

You can see a full list of the films being shown at this year’s festival right here, and the schedule of events here. The screenings at venues such as the Regal Cinema and Colony Theater come backed up by talks, Q&As, panel discussions, master classes, and official parties.

A Few Highlights of ABFF 2018

Among those associated events is a Saturday, June 16th conversation with Ryan Coogler, the director of the Marvel smash hit Black Panther. Nichelle Turner will moderate the discussion, held from 5 to 6:15 PM at the New World Center Performance Hall.

At 7:45 PM on Friday the 15th in the Loews Hotel’s Americana 3, meanwhile, the Hot in Hollywood panel will feature stories and reflections from some of the most notable black figures in the film and TV industries today: Kofi Siriboe, Jacob Latimore, Logan Browning, Ashley Blaine Featherson, and Bresha Webb, in conversation with Dondre Whitfield.
