Art Basel Miami 2017
Art Basel Miami kicked off in 2002 as a “sister fair” to the original Art Basel, which launched in Switzerland in 1970. (In recent years a third Art Basel fair has joined the family, this one in Hong Kong.)
Miami’s version—the crowning event of Miami Art Week—spotlights the work of better than 4,000 artists from all over the world and attracts nearly 80,000 visitors, including professional art collectors and dealers.
Art Basel Miami Venues: The Miami Beach Convention Center & Beyond
The action is centered on the Miami Beach Convention Center. A whopping 500,000 square feet of exhibition space is divided into nine themed sections that together encompass a dazzling spectrum of media, styles, and subject matter. The artwork on display isn’t restricted to indoor galleries by any means: Swing by Collins Park, the “Public” sector of the fair, to admire sculptures and all sorts of performance art, and head for SoundScape Park for video exhibitions on the 7,000-square-foot projection wall.
